Rita is
comforted knowing that she is not a burden to Peggy, describing her as a
woman who is independent and has “things covered.” “When we talk it’s
about not going back out there.” Rita allows Peggy to vent and the
mentor finds that “the more Peggy talks the more she reassures herself
that the drug life is no life at all.”
With the
support from her mentor and family, Peggy’s dreams are manifesting. She
is currently working a new job and her health is better. Rita is still
there as a constant friend continuing to maintain contact at least twice
a week. When asked what makes a successful mentee-mentor relationship,
Rita responds: “Constant communication. She keeps me informed with
what’s going on and I help her the best I can.”
